Support for Advocacy

For the past 18 months I have worked pro bono to raise awareness for Organ Donation and life saving Transplants. I have offered my free and passionate service and support to DonateLife, Transplant Australia, The Sweetest Gift, Sharelife, The Gift of Life, The Herd of Hope, Donor Families Australia and The Transplant Network.

I have been given media exposure on National Nine News, NBN News, ABC Central Coast, TNT Radio, News and Daily Mail as well as CuppaTV, Sh!t5 Gone Sideways and BarTV.

I have worked with state and federal governments and politicians across Australia to advance Legislative and policy initiatives to improve the rates of Next of Kin Consent.

In WA the Government has made it possible for families to celebrate their loved ones without fear of persecution under the HTTA. They formed a brand new Friends of Organ Donation and are looking at significant improvements to their legislation via a parliamentary review.

In SA, legislation has been introduced for posthumous recognition of deceased donors that would prevent families from being prosecuted under the TAA in SA.

In August, I will be participating in the Victorian Parliamentary Enquiry into ways to improve that states Sonation and Next of kin Consent Rates.

NSW has just approved the reformation of the Parliamentary Friends of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplant Awareness and there is a review of the 2012 Government plan to increase or organ donation. In addition the Ministers for Digital Services in the former and current governments have approved the use of the Service NSW App and multiple digital portals to increase registration of organ donors.

I was nominated for an Australia Day Award for my advocacy on the NSW Central Coast and I was fortunate enough to be able to afford to Represent Australia by attending the World Transplant Games in Perth just 16 months post transplant.

My story has been read into Hansard I. Various parliaments both state and federal. Perhaps my proudest moment to date came today when I received written endorsement from Mr Adam Crouch MP for Terrigal.

I was given a second chance and I am determined to make a difference for everyone on the Transplant Journey.
